Breakdown

I discovered sharpening! Yay!

“Lilith, Shannon’s dead.”

Jason’s words kept repeating over and over and over in her mind until her heart beat to their rhythm.

I'm trying to not overdo it, though.

She had run out of the house, desperate to get away. To get somewhere sane, where people stayed alive and frolicked among the daisies in sun-dappled meadows and never had bad dreams and never lived in houses near waterfalls and certainly never went crazy and killed people.

when I uploaded this pic there was an ad for Coraline

“Are you okay? You sure ran out of there like your hair was on fire and your ass was catching.”

tee hee, I said ass

“Yeah, I’m fine. Listen, can we go to the library today instead of the office? I have an appointment.”

Lilith made a mental note that she really needed to buy her own car. Or start riding the bus. Sitting next to old Crazy Kevin would be better than this. Would probably smell better too.

anyway, the ad for Coraline totally freaked me out

She got out of the cab and turned towards the library doors, willing her mind to be cool and still and silent.

it was like aaaahhhh buttons for eyes!

“Lilith.”

I mean, button eyes are pretty freaky

Her vision cleared just in time. She put out her hands to steady herself.

What part of still and silent did her stupid brain not understand?

supposedly button noses are cute

“Err, nothing to see here. No one going crazy or having weird visions or cracking up, not here. I am perfectly sane. Perfectly perfectly sane.”

Lilith looked around but it appeared that the denizens of Sunset Valley thought it much too early for visits to the library. She breathed a sigh of relief and continued up the steps.

I hate my artistic integrity

“Mr. Sekemoto?”

Lilith was surprised by the steadiness of her voice and mentally cheered her vocal cords on.

“Oh, is that you Ms. Parker? I’m just up here by the science fiction. Come on in.”

I had an absolutely beautiful picture of Lilith looking out towards the lighthouse

“Yes Lilith, please do come in.”

but I just couldn't make it fit

She started up the stairs and tried to ignore the trembling in her legs.

so I had to let it go

She made it to the top of the stairs without tripping or dying or otherwise embarrassing herself. So far so good.

“Good morning, Mr. Sekemoto.”

but if it really loves me it'll come back

“Good morning, Ms. Parker. I understand you wished to speak about Seth Morrigan?”

the button eyes are really starting to freak me out, man

“Lilith, Shannon’s dead.”

once on the internet I knew a girl who claimed to have sewn her mouth shut

“Are you all right, Ms. Parker?”

speaking of the picture that I had to let go

“Oh yes, I’m sorry. Didn’t sleep that well last night. Yes, Seth Morrigan. I was wondering if you knew anything about him. I’ve been told that you’re the person to go to for information on Sunset Valley history.”

I still have it open and can't get it to close.

“That is certainly high praise. I must ask you who said that. But for now, let’s see. Hmm, yes, Seth Morrigan. He moved here with his wife about fifty years ago.”

so maybe it does love me

“The fire comes for us all, Lilith.”

in a scary stalker sort of way

“He was a valued scientist at our local research facility and won several awards for his work on rare flora and fauna like lifeplants and deathfish.”

every time I upload a pic I see them

“Yes, I read about all that in our archives at the paper. I was wondering if you knew anything about his wife’s disappearance or a mysterious fire? I found this story online last night that mentioned things like that and I was wondering if there was any truth to it.”

the eye buttons, they taunt me

“Oh. Err. That. Yes.”

could be worse - could be eye sharks

“Lilith, we’re all dead. Especially you. Hah!”

or eye snakes

“We don’t really like to talk about that.”

I think it's about time to start winding this chapter up

“The chamber of commerce doesn’t really like it to get around, you understand. Bad for tourism and such. They really don’t like me talking about it.”

I need to take a few more pictures in the game though

“I understand that, Mr. Sekemoto, I do. But well, you see, my boss sort of dropped dead under mysterious circumstances last night after assigning me this story. So I kind of need to know. Now.”

yeah, I'm reusing pictures. But my artistic integrity tells me it's okay

“It’s too late, Lilith.”

so whatever, yeah, what'cha gonna do?

“It is not too late! It’s not it’s not it’s not! Don’t you see?! She’s not dead! She’s just off frolicking in a freaking damn sun-dappled meadow!”

almost done

“Okay, I can see you’re upset. Anyone would be. I’m truly sorry for your loss. But I cannot speak of that here.”

oh god, the button eyes again!

“Why the hell not?!”

Lilith threw up her hands in frustration. She’d totally lost her cool and blown any pretense of professionalism, but she didn’t care. It wasn’t like there was anyone to fire her.

the buttons - they pop out of my screen and try to eat my brain

“Well, there is one thing. Do you by any chance know Bella Goth?”

Oh that was creepy…and your shots are amazing! I am thinking Jason better keep a close watch on Lilith…those flashes of memory are scary!

OK Lilith cracks me up. She has such a skewed way of looking at things.

I’m going to start trying to reply to comments on here even if it is a bit overwhelming.

Thanks! I did worry a bit about over-editing and reusing pics, but like I said in the mouseover text my artistic integrity said it was okay and the story needed it.

Thank you for reading and commenting – it really does mean a lot.

You’re great at building suspense. Poor Lilith! One wonders whether she’ll be able to keep it together long enough to get any answers.

Oh my, I love all the suspense you are putting your readers through. Also, your style of writing is something most pleasantly unusual, yet still close to ordinary people (in my opinion at least — I can closely relate to Lilith’s thoughts).
Will continue reading, and thanks for sharing! πŸ˜€

Yay! I’m grateful that you like it enough to keep reading, and the compliment on the writing style certainly goes straight to my little writer’s heart. Lilith is an ordinary person, I think – she’s just going through some extraordinary experiences.

Wow, thank you! πŸ™‚ I take pictures until I feel like I have enough to start and then I look through them and choose some to start with and edit and upload them. Then I write the caption in the caption space on photobucket and copy and paste it over here. If the story seems to call for any shots I don’t have yet I’ll load the game up and take them.

I’m definitely not the sort who writes the story out beforehand and takes pictures to fit.

I really do appreciate all of your comments – they’ve given me the inspiration to continue this until I’m done and then actually go for my dream of one day publishing something. πŸ™‚

Yay! I’m gonna comment here since you’ll be replying here. πŸ™‚ Or do you prefer comments on SWG?

I think the picture where Seth’s wife glares at her and says β€œThe fire comes for us all, Lilith.” was the freakiest! Are the ghosts sending mind messages to her?

Bella Goth?? She’s just a kid in TS3 right? D8 That makes it even scarier, what has a kid gotta do with all this?

Yeah, I’ve been wanting to use that pic forever. πŸ™‚

Bella is a child when you start the game – and Sam Sekemoto is a toddler and Shannon’s mother, Claire Ursine, is pregnant. πŸ˜‰ The story is set about fifty years after the start of the game.

Okay, so I was going to leave a comment on your liverjournal but I don’t have an account and really didn’t want to create yet another account to do so (I have way too many :D).

    So, here goes….

I waited for a while to come back because I like long reads and figured you’d post at least two before I made the trip over and boy was I surprised! I’m so loving this story and it’s a definite non-legacy story.

Lilith – is just a little weird okay. I’m not diggin’ the way she’s treating poor Jason. I think her personal issues make her a prime target for the ghosts of the house. Those scary nightmares and images during the waking hours have me really concerned for her well-being.

Jason – I love him! The poor dear is definitely in love in a major way. He doesn’t want to be a door mat but he just can’t leave Lilith alone to suffer. I think he’s going to play a major role in her rescue from this assignment eh?

    Your prose – stellar!
    Your pics – super stellar!
Your humor – just my style.

Four stars m’dear and keep ’em coming.
