The human touch of the older woman’s hand broke through the fog that had wrapped itself around Lilith’s mind.
This person was real and solid and alive, and she was saying things in a nice and caring tone. Lilith wanted her to talk more. Listening to her was like lying very still in a soft warm bed.
She seemed to be expecting an answer. Who was she? Lilith tried to remember, but the last thing she remembered was Mr. Sekemoto saying something about Bella Goth. This angel with the feather bed voice must be Bella Goth then. Hadn’t she just said that? Everything was so fuzzy and unreal and she wasn’t quite sure of anything, really.
“Umm…I’m Lilith.”
“Welcome to my humble home, Lilith! You’ve met my daughter Cassandra, of course. She said you looked terrible when she met you at the door. I hope you had a good rest?”
Rest?
Lilith stared over Bella’s shoulder, watching the fire in the fireplace. So pretty and warm and nice.
The flames rose and crackled and fell and called her name, inviting her with the promise of a warm oblivion.
The fog began to roll in.
“Are you all right? You can go lie down again if you need to. It’s just me and Cassandra rattling around this old house together and we don’t use half of the rooms anymore, so it’s no trouble. ”
The warm voice burned off the fog and Lilith dragged her eyes from the fire and tried to focus on the woman in front of her.
“I’m fine, thanks.”
“Are you sure? It was on the news about your colleague Shannon Ursine. I’m so sorry. And Cassandra said you were utterly exhausted and that you almost passed out before she got you upstairs.”
Lilith tried to smile. She needed to keep Bella talking, to keep the fog away.
“No, really, I’m fine. So Mr. Sekemoto tells me that you might be able to tell me more about Seth Morrigan. Shannon assigned me the story yesterday, before…before…Shannon…”
The edges of her vision began to go gray.
Silence descended on the room.
Lilith looked at the dead tree outside the window. It glowed with life borrowed from the dying sun.
She shivered. He was out there, waiting for her. Waiting to suck the life from her.
The fog inched forward, threatening to obliterate her.
She had to hear the angel voice again.
“I’m sorry, I thought Mr. Sekemoto told you that I needed to talk to you about a story. I didn’t mean to offend you or impose on you or anything. I can go.”
Inside she was screaming and begging and pleading to stay here, to listen to the voice, to stay somewhere within shouting distance of reality and sanity.
“Oh no, no, it’s fine. It’s just that…well, it’s been quite some time since I heard that name. No, dear, you’re fine. Sam didn’t say that’s what you wanted to talk about, but that’s fine. Just give me a second here.”
Inside her head, Lilith screamed that she didn’t have a second.
She remained cool and calm and polite on the outside. She was proud of herself for that.
“Oh, I understand. Take all the time you need. I’m sorry. He seemed nervous and sort of like he thought someone was listening, so maybe that’s why he didn’t tell you.”
“He sounded like someone was listening? And Shannon assigned you this story yesterday and then last night she…? Oh dear. Oh, you poor dear. No wonder you were in such bad shape. Well, I’ll tell you my story. Maybe it’ll help you. Let’s sit down.”
“It is a rather long story. Did you want anything to eat or drink before we get started? I think we’ve got some juice in the fridge.”
Lilith turned and walked over to the opposite couch and sat down, facing Bella and the window with the dead tree.
“No thank you. I’m fine.”
The sun had sunk below the horizon and the tree was now lit by the outdoor garden lights. Its branches waved in the wind like the arms of zombies, coming to eat Lilith’s brains.
She shivered as the fog played around the edges of her consciousness. But Bella had promised a long story. As she began to talk, Lilith grabbed the lifeline of her beautiful voice and held on to reality as tightly as she could.
“Forty years ago, long before you were born, I had a friend. Her name was Emma Morrigan. This is her story.”
Aw man, cliff hanger!

You’re welcome. 🙂 Help went fast because it’s mostly pictures, and then the kitten made sure I was up by 9 this morning so I’d have time to do Fog today. Also Fog didn’t have any edited pictures so that helped.
Also, it kind of helps that I completely love writing this story. 🙂

Nice cliffhanger. Can’t wait for the next update!

Thank you. 🙂 Some people fuss about the cliffhangers, but that’s just where the update wants to end. Honestly, I couldn’t write Fog until I’d published Help because my artistic integrity said that Help was finished and wouldn’t let me add any more to it.
I’m fairly certain that the next update will be up within a week but I haven’t really started on it yet so I can’t make a better prediction than that.

This is such a cliffhanger but I love it I also noticed that you posted a comment on alice and kev and the updates on here are much longer and this has tons of suspense i love this!!!

Thank you! Alice and Kev rocks and I love it and the shorter updates work for roBurky’s style and purpose quite well. There are many different ways to tell stories using the Sims game, and that’s part of the fun of reading other people’s stories – seeing how they do it and what format they choose and what they come up with.
I’m glad you like my little story – I absolutely adore writing it and have fallen completely in love with Lilith, so it’s good when other people share in my joy.

Both of today’s updates are terrific! I feel like maybe Lilith will finally get some peace as soon as Bella tells her story. I can’t wait to ‘hear’ it.
I’ll impatiently wait for the next update!

I’m loving this so far. The flashbacks to the fire are awesome, keeps the atmosphere creepy all the time. Starting to remind me of Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit if you’ve ever played that, or Silent Hill. Both creepy games. Great storytelling either way. When Mrs Goth asked Lillith if she wanted anything from the fridge I was expecting her to ask for Ice Cream, but ah well.
Great going anyways, hope the good work continues!
LikeLike
Thank you! Actually I’ve never played any of those games.
Heh, yes – ice cream. I was thinking that I need to go back and reread the whole thing because as I go on I think I’m starting to lose some of the earlier threads.
I also hope that it continues to be decent – I’m always worried about jumping the shark.

Ooh, Bella Goth is such a nice lady! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I wonder why she seemed perfectly okay with telling the story while Mr. Sekemoto thought he is putting himself in danger by speaking about it though. And Emma Morrigan is… Seth’s mother?
LikeLike
Yes, my Bella is rather nice. I like her quite a bit. She is in her own house rather than a public space, and plus – she’s Bella. EA gave her the brave trait.
Nope, Emma isn’t Seth’s mother. Remember, Seth and Sarah moved to Sunset Valley fifty years ago. Won’t say anything more than that. 😉
OMG, I love you and your comments! That helped me catch a timeline inconsistency. Okay, now Bella’s story is set forty years ago. Which means that her hair should really be less gray, but oh well.

I don’t know how I could end on a non cliff-hangery type thing. How would you do that and make it natural and not weird and not a huge long update with hundreds of pictures that would take weeks to write?
I’ll give it some thought.

Just discovered this story, and I love it!
With the mystery/suspense vibe you have going on, the cliff hangers are to be expected. Definitely makes me want to come back for more!
You have a wonderful way of painting pictures with your words, and those picture you do choose enhance those word pictures.

Awww, thanks. 🙂 Yeah, it’s not exactly hardcore horror. I was talking to my husband last night and realized that I do actually have an influence – Poe. I read so much Poe as a kid and loved everything he wrote. Which it’s funny, because I actually made a playlist to just play The Raven by the Alan Parsons Project while I was writing Nightmare but I still didn’t consciously realize the Poe thing until yesterday.
His poem “Alone” is like my theme poem.
Anyway, I’m very glad that you like it. I love writing it. Hopefully I can have the next update out fairly soon. I plan to start really working on it tonight.

Well gee – I’m all blushy and quite a bit breathless myself now. 🙂 Thank you. That really does mean a lot – writing is pretty much all I’ve ever wanted to do with my life and so when other people like what I write it makes me all happy. 🙂 I hope you continue to enjoy it. Like I said, I’m knuckling down on the next update tonight.

There are several things in your story that remaind me of “The ring” The “stone circle”, the little girl, the dead tree and even the lighthouse XD But the astory is unique anyway, and totally awesome 😀

Thank you for all of your comments. 🙂 Yeah, I know – but I’ve only seen it once and that was ages ago and I didn’t even think about it until after my husband read Nightmare and pointed it out. And hey, the lighthouse and the dead tree were put there by EA – plus I can’t even really remember them in the movie. I mostly remember the little girl coming out of the TV, which freaked me out.
Anyway – I am happy that you came to check out my story and that you liked it. 🙂 That makes me all warm and fuzzy and stuff. I want to get to work on the next update tonight, but apparently my cats would rather force me to play with them with the Cat Dancer until I die, or something – lol, the three adult ones are all gathered next to my computer chair sniffing at it.

Oh wow, thanks! I do think of it as a comic/graphic novel/TV show type deal, so that’s gratifying.
I got to know cameraman mode pretty well in Sims 2 and then my job for the last four years has been taking pictures of rental properties for the company website, so I’ve got some practice.
Yeah, I was actually surprised by how well the game looks and runs on this computer.
The guilt of leaving the kitten alone is starting to eat my soul, so I have to go play with her some now. But thank you, really, from my heart – writing is who I am and I absolutely love this story, so when other people enjoy it too it just makes me so happy and full of joy.

I’m not even exaggerating… This should be published.
I can’t believe you said that you liked my blog the best when your blog is just so amazing.
Usually when a Sims blog has progressed as far as you have when I start reading it I can’t be bothered reading it all but this had me hooked straight away.
This should be published.
I’m not joking, it should.
EA Games should be paying you for this.
I’m going to make a special mention for you on my site because I really think that every one should read this blog.
Well Done!

Sigh – I can’t get Twitter to load, but when it does I’ll add a link to it under Valley Links so if anyone is on Twitter and cares I can give little updates about how the next update is going and stuff.

*does the whole cartoon-thing where his mouth drops open and hits the floor, so he quickly picks it up and it does it again* Wow! Usually what I see (and write in my own. xD) is just a simple, thin-plot kind of story about the life of your sims in a Sims 3 Blog. Yours is WAAAAY different (and not in a good way, a GREAT way)! Yours has a great, thick plot. Great cliffhangers, suspense, drama, action, adventure, everything! I love it. *Subscribes to RSS feed* I really hope you continue with writing in your life, as you have inspired me, and I’m pretty sure this is written better than half of the books I’ve been reading this past year… xD

You know, I never followed the Goths and all of the Sim-conspiracies that surround them, from TS1 to now, but I have seen images of Bella, and she looked like a woman who knew what she wanted, and by goodness she got it! This Bella seems kinder, and obviously older, and I like how you used her tone of voice to keep Lilith sane.
I can’t believe I’m also coming to the end of your updates! I am so glad I added you!

My Bella is a lovely person, yes. I didn’t really have a preconception of her. The only thing that came to mind when I decided to use her and aged her up and designed her outfit was that she was classy and elegant. I’ve lived all my life in North Carolina, and I probably did have the archetypal older Southern lady in mind when I started writing her. I’ve met a few of them in my life and really enjoyed being around them. 🙂

Ha! That reminds me of Clarissa’s Gran from RT! I gave her a German first name, yet she’s turning out to be Southern as well! I think it’s my Sookie Stackhouse fascination spilling outward. 😉

Thank you. 🙂 And I’ve been going back and rereading the earlier chapters lately and referencing them in the current updates, so if you read it all at once you’ll see that and perhaps understand more than people who have been reading the updates as they come out.
And yes, Lilith’s life changes quite a bit in the three day span of the story.
I also love it. A lot. And am glued to it to the point that I’ve been updating twice a week for three months now and there hasn’t been the first sign of burnout or even a real block.

I think you perfectly described the panic attack Lilith was going through. I can’t tell you how much I can relate to that (other than the ghost haunting part ^_~). Needing to be near someone and listening to them talk is what I go through during the worst of them.

I like how you embodied Lilith’s visions as a sort of fog trying to invade her mind. Be strong Lilith, stay in control of your mind! She gives me the feeling that she could snap at any moment and do something crazy lol.
Who are Mr. Sekemoto and Bella so paranoid about? They are worried about someone listening, but who? I’m excited to hear Bella’s story about Emma!

Lilith was quite emotionally fragile in Valley, yeah. It’ll be interesting to see how she fares in the new story.
You’ll see who they’re worried about – actually I think you already have.

Cliffhanger! Oh, I wonder who Emma is. I’m guessing she was related to Seth and Sarah. I feel bad for Lilith. She seems pretty emotionally distraught. I take back what I said earlier about not facing reality. I think she’s finally let all the emotions catch up to her, and something else sinister is afoot. I hope she’s going to be okay.
